Supporting children with special
needs and their families

The total amount of funds raised by the teams, the boss and Comstor will be donated to the Cirencester Opportunity Group, an independent play group where children with special needs can play and learn with other children. The group was founded in 1973 and has been providing a positive, happy and caring environment where children’s’ individual needs are recognised and where each child is encouraged to reach his or her full potential.

Facilities

The charity organises sessions for babies, toddlers, pre-schoolers and families in the large playroom, book room or soft play room. The centre also has a therapy room which is used by a Speech and Language therapist and a Music therapist.

Outside there are paved and grassed areas for fun and games, a super sandpit, tricycles, tunnels and a Forest School, an outdoor classroom with sensory plants, mature trees and woodland nature which the children love exploring. Altogether it is an inspirational and enriching environment which allows every child to develop their self-confidence and self-esteem.

The play group with its trained staff, activities and facilities rely heavily on donations, fund raising events and goodwill of local people and businesses. Here are some examples of how your support helps them:

  • £5 - pays for a week’s healthy lunch for a child
  • £10 - pays for 2 new books for the library
  • £20 - pays for a child to enjoy a session in the Forest School
  • £50 - pays for specialist equipment for speech and language development
  • £100 - pays for music therapy for children with communication difficulties

Whatever amount you can afford, you can be sure that every penny will go towards giving children with special needs and their families, living in Cirencester and the surrounding area, the help and support they need.
