An Athlete's Story: Renton D'Souza running in the Dubai Heat
Rio de Janeiro (BR) 2 June 2013 - As a member of Team Wishful Thinking, Renton D’Souza, General Manager of Comstor ME (right on the photo), will take on the third leg of the Beat the Boss triathlon, the 10 km run. He started training for this event as soon as he signed up and has formed a group of helpers and motivators around him, consisting of his wife Vandana, his son Aryan and pro golfer Tiger Woods.
Renton, also known as ’the Dubai Demon’ runs mainly in the evenings in a small park close to his home. “The park has a 1.5 km running track where I do my laps”, he says. “I like to run with my IPod playing my power songs, because music is such a help. I also get some feedback from Tiger Woods, my personal trainer on the Nike + app.” Renton’s 7 year old son Aryan also does a great job pushing his dad to run further and faster. He follows Renton on his bike cheering him on, while Vandana hands him the water bottle and the towel each time he runs by.
Originally from Bangalore, India, Renton has been living in Dubai for nine years. With the summer having started he knows that it will be difficult to continue training outside. Temperatures can reach 45˚C, which makes it impossible to go for a run. Even in the night the temperatures don’t really drop down much, it can still be 30˚ C. Renton is not a big fan of running on the treadmill, but might have to do so in order to reach his target on September 15. “I would be happy if I could simply finish the 10 km run. I would be very pleased if I could do so in less than 70 minutes.”
Not being able to use his IPod during the triathlon and bring his support team, will Renton still be able to meet his goals? You can show your support for this massive effort by sponsoring ‘the Dubai Demon’ and his team. Click here to go to his fundraising page.
